Add Threads to ThreadSoup.com Mod

Hi, i am the owner of the ThreadSoup.com social bookmarking site for forum threads.

About TS
The site is basically a digg style site for forum threads. Forum junkies and fans can gather to find cool new threads on forums from all over. The site will allow you and your members or visitors to submit cool, interesting, or downright funny threads they find on your forums. This will attract new members to your forums but most importantly it'll add great exposure to your forums and allow people to see the best threads your forum has to offer. Whether they be directly related to your overall forum topic or offtopic stuff. And, of course, it's free backlinks

I have begun advertising and driving traffic to the site. I plan to advertise it on my high traffic sites and pay for links on other high traffic sites so the traffic increase will be substantial. I'll also be promoting on myspace.

TO INSTALL THIS MOD
Easy to add, just 1 quick copy/paste template edit.

In the SHOWTHREAD template FIND this line:
Code:
<!-- / controls above postbits -->
Then just add this code BELOW it:
Code:
<!-- START THREADSOUP.COM CODE -->
<table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="$stylevar[cellspacing]" border="0" width="100%" align="center" style="border-bottom-width:0px">
<tr>
    <td class="thead" width="100%">
        Bookmark this thread at ThreadSoup:
<a href="http://www.threadsoup.com/submit.php?phase=2&url=$vboptions[bburl]/showthread.php?t=$threadid" target="_blank"><img class="inlineimg" src="http://www.threadsoup.com/favicon.ico" alt="BookMark This Thread On ThreadSoup.com!" border="0" /> <a href="http://www.threadsoup.com/submit.php?phase=2&url=$vboptions[bburl]/showthread.php?t=$threadid" target="_blank">Add it!</a>

 </td>
  </tr>
</table>
<!-- END THREADSOUP.COM CODE -->
Thanks and let me know what you think.

vBSEO RC7 has the ability to add your own social bookmarks.

This seems to be all the rage these days. I signed my sites up at BoardTraker and I am getting ready to ban their so called spider because they break my Search Engine Optimization's links and they add referrerid=# to every link which absolutely breaks any SE value of the links. Plus they charge users to use their service so that might explain why there are no referrals from them.

So how would you say your return to the submiting sites compares to that mess?

Also, in regards to the template edit, "Bookmark this thread at ThreadSoup:" seems a rather large addition to the postbit. Even though I understand you want to get your name out, I would make that a title= or alt= and just stick with the button.

Looking forward to your replies.

Hmm, honestly those are some good points on the whole boardtracker fiasco as well as the point about the postbit text length as well. I knew boardtracker was a shipwreck waiting to happen from the start. All I can say to the people who argued against me is, told ya so.

I will mention that it can and should be edited to fit your tastes. True getting the name out is great but when I wrote that text I was thinking more along the lines of making ThreadSoup seem important enough to warrant the time to submit the thread there. Not as an adevrtisement. I wanted them to think hey, what's ThreadSoup? Should I know about this site?

My site is genuinely aimed at being the next Digg for forums. I want the actual members of my site to be people who visit forums regularly. True forum junkies. And unlike similar sites and others like boardtracker my intention is to give back to the community (with backlinks (notice I actually give live backlinks), traffic, and new members) while building my own usership advertising to the masses. That's why I advertise both to the forum admin community and on myspace and my other higher traffic sites.

What are your policies on link submissions. I see all over the net people are starting to get banned from DIGG. Not to get into an argumenent on what is or isn't spam, just interested in your policies.

Did I scare you off?

Don't think that I am against this type of thing. I just ask questions that arise from experience.

Well, we ask the hard questions here because it is important for our members to have the answers. At least we haven't been rude to him like the natives at vBORG have.

Haha, no you didn't scare me off. When I'm in working mode I have temporary ADD then I pass out.

My policies are basically what you'd expect. Much the same as digg. digg banning really started because of all the threads on webmaster forums saying "digg me".

Banning really isn't necessary once the site gets going. The vote requirement to make it to the front page will gradually go up as the site gains popularity so just like digg it'll be hard to get to the front page without being a worthy thread. I'll move it up and down to keep em guessing The only banning I'll need to do is people who use digg me threads and people who register multiple accounts to vote for their thread submission.

Beyond that I of course have to keep it PG for the advertisers so:

No:

- Extreme profanity (F*ck S*it etc)
- Nudity and otherwise NSFW images or video.
- Extreme vulgarity (some grossness is ok but mutilated bodies is a no no.)
- Hate (No content geared towards hate groups, racial, religious or otherwise)

Your thoughts?

I Still see a lot of those di g me posts. I guess people like to gamble but they hate to lose.

Sounds like you have a plan. It will takes some time to establish yourself. People post to those things for various reasons. The ones that do it for traffic and Page Ranking will be leary untill they can see that. Others just like to be seen everywhere so they are usually the early birds. As long as you are in it for the long haul then I say go for it.
