In your details screen of the vBSEO sitemap generator you can see it shows you the files it made. Right click and copy paste those links.
You didn't mess with your .htaccess did you?

I checked your index file and all your sitemaps are in the proper location.
http ://www.domain_name.com/sitemap_index.xml.gz
http ://www.domain_name.com/sitemap_1.xml.gz
etc...

That's strange, I don't see them in my root directory of that site.
I just checked my htaccess file(no I didn't modify that) and I see this:
Code:
RewriteRule ^((urllist|sitemap).*\.(xml|txt)(\.gz)?)$ forums/vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]
Is that what's it's doing?

Your files are fine. By your post it looks like you tried submitting http ://sitemapname instead of http ://domain_name/sitemapname

you wont physically see the files in your ftp,, the htaccess file makes them appear in the correct position..
If CM set you up, then I'm sure the sitemap is working correctly

Yes, they are in your vbseo_sitemap folder which is convenient to the generator. But google will only parse pages below the sitemap file. So vBSEO sitemap generator makes them apear to be located in root using .htaccess. This is fine with google.

I know I have to add each sitemap individually to Google, but how often does one have to "resubmit" them?

If your Sitemap Generator is running, it submits them for you. Doesn't show on the GoogleSitemaps page, but they are being submitted I've noticed.

Yes but if you want all the great info the sitemap page has to offer you need to submit them.
You never have to resubmit them. Except when you reach the post count that adds another sitemap. Then you just submit that one. Make sure you submit your index as well.

You should get some good info on your sitemap page in a month or two. Google takes it's sweet time as you may know.

70?!?!?
Man!!! How large was each one? 20k? Times 70... 1.4 million... Seems to me that number rings a bell. Still seems like a lot to me!

Yes each was exactly 20K, times 70. Is that allot? I have 700,000 posts on my site. I wonder if my review center is also being added, we have 12,000 reviews.

You have so much because there is also member profiles, threads, plus I probably set it to submit the links as old style as well. Once you stop seeing the old style links in google cache then you can turn that part off and it will reduce in size accordingly. The point of that exersise to get google to follow the old links. Then when they are redirected to the new link they will update the link in their cache.

Okay, I knew that, but... What I don't know and perhaps Kihon Kata and other don't either is this: How do I check and tell when google is no longer caching the old style links???

google search "site:makeuptalk.com"
When you stop seing links in there with the old format then the goose is cooked.
