Foto Fanatix

A new forum for Photographic enthusiasts of all skill levels to get together and share techniques of photographing, editing, printing in both digital and analog mediums.

Seperate sections for discussing the industry and new technologies. Areas for Analog and Digital Camera discussions.

Unlike most Photographic Forums I have a seperate category in the actual forum for posting your photographs. This allows for ample discussion of multiple works (like series of photos or several different edits/modes for the same photo). It also allows for posting of others works in similiar threads.

Even though we are still small, we can boast having ALL skill levels from Professional to several 'novice clikers' using inexpensive hardware. (and all levels producing some wonderful photos!!)

Cheers,

G_Man

You should never use index.php in your forums links on your site. Always change them so they point to http://www.fotofanatix.com/theforums/ without the index.php part. That way you have a more uniform PageRank flow.

Yer a freak about this stuff. You know that right? lol

Seriously, though. You are saying I should go into the templates and change any of those links to end in the '/' only?

It's a vBulletin setting is it not? Do you want your site to have good PageRank Flow?

Well, of course I do. I'll have to check for that setting. Not familiar with it...

I've never liked this style so I'll try and not to be too discriminating. The cat headers are incorrectly saved out as is the footer cats due to the new coloured background. I would modify the psds so they match the background colour so they compliment each other and look sealess without any redundant colour matte showing.

The forum status Icons look a little shoddy as it shows the outline of the old colours (square shaped) this will be because they weren't croppped, You might want to set the tolerance level to zero or maybe use one of the orbs at my forum (psd provided). Personally, I would have stuck with the folders untill something more appropriate came along.

The images in the "what's going on area" aren't complimenting the new background colour and are showing remnants of the old coloured matte resulting in shoddy edged images which would otherwise compliment the area nicely.

Maybe it's my eyes but is that a dark red outline around the login/logout area? I personally feel it looks horribly out of place. Maybe lower the tone of the background colour and then change the border to a light black/dark grey colour.

I'm going by memory here and am reviewing it from what I remembered several hours ago when i first seen the style (unable to view your forum now).

In all honesty, I've never liked the style though if you fix the image problems (which aren't saved out correctly) and the other images which look shoddy due to the incorrectly saved out images the style would look a whole lot better.

Goodluck with your forum G_Man, I might even register as I have just recently got interested in photography and will be purchasing a new camera soon.

edit: I forgot to set the 4 criteria areas, so don't take that as your score. I rate purely on a verbal review which will benfit you more in the long run.

Okay Shelley... definitely took some of your advice. Got rid of the 'shoddy' edges. Replaced it with a bevel though. I didn't like that even without the edge, the background is a different color if you enter a category. Background switches from alt2 to alt1...

Also, changed the dark red to a more fitting grey and took the time to edit the trim on the graphics.

Thanks for you input.

Oh... and welcome aboard. Better hurry up and get that camera. Christmas, maybe?

Your going to hate me G_man but my review is purely critical.

The logo seems to have some kind of repeating problem, look closer? see the lines on each repeat? they should appear seamless without the repeating image showing. The text looks rather bland and when I say bland white text should have some kind of gradient embedded into it to give it some life and possibly a dro shadow to give it a more prominant feel to it.

Forum Icons - I would personally remove the border around those orbs, better still, remove the orbs all together as they bare no relevence to photography whatsoever. Maybe introduce some camera Icons or photo images?

The what's going on area? or rather the images that reside within this area look a little taccy with the border around them. Text above everything doesn't really do this justice and should be displayed with images that convey each area.

Button set look or the text looks a little big and not to original. Maybe some buttons with nice icons on them?

In all honesty, dark styles (or this dark style) really doesn't compliment the theme of a photography forum. There's too many images which are incorrectly saved out and images which don't compliment their respected areas.

I really hope you consider a overhaul with the images. I invision a beutified style but what I'm viewing just doesn't stand out from the crowd which is why I'm giving you a honest review.

Anyone can say "great style" or "great job" but that's them being nice and not really being honest which really doesn't help you in the long run.
