Don't look Shelley!


Here is my forum. I'm still tinkering with the CMPS, but pretty much done.


It is dark (and in fact certain forums are darker) so won't be up Shelley's alley. Still I'd like to here what Shelley and the rest of you think. More ideas always mean more opportunity for improvement, eh??

And before anyone asks, the forums serves no purpose other than to entertain. Myself, most of my Mods and a few members basically fled a nazi regime at another forum and I started this forum for us to just hang out at.

The name is both Spiritual as a question, since Seppuku is Japanese Ritual Suicide, and metaphoric as one of my last major posts before being banned and starting this forum was about discussion about Seppuku...

I thought you were someone I used to chat with regularly to.

Anyway, Sorry it took so long to get to your post (been working on a project for a client).

As you know dark styles aren't my thing but I always look passed my own preference and I'll start with the logo. To me, the logo is far to busy and the animations can become tedious and annoying and I would start by removing the animations. The logo is sliced in 3 parts so I would suggest that the repeating area be void of animations, infact, I wouldn't have any type of animation whatsoever in the logo. Give the logo a kind of calm feeling, something soft and pleasing to eyes.

Forum status icons look okay but that's about it they look okay and nothing exceptional and I would personally keep to the yingyang style except go with an image which looks better quality. Instead of having the square border I would have only the yingyang sign and nothing else surrounding it.

The subforum markers shouldn't have the prominant animation, maybe go with something more subtle that's not to dazzling to the users eyes.

Overall there's to many animated images on your forum and although some people will like it and maybe alot will like it at first it can become irritating and tedious.

Button set font could be crispier and clearer (I guess it's the japanese font) though maybe find a japanese themed font that will suit the buttons and at the same time offer a higher clarity/crispier look.

Overall I'm not keen at all with the style. I could lie and say I liked it but that wouldn't help you in improving the whole feel to your board. To many animations and I for one find everything in all areas far to busy.

haha!!

You know, I de-animated the header and got complaints!! So, I put it back... *shrug*

I'll have consider the font... I hear ya, but didn't see anything that worked at the time. Maybe I'll have to look harder.

Sub-forum markers - yeah, totally agree... been meaning to change those and your comments will likely set a fire under my butt on those.

Forum Status Markers... hmmm... I think I agree. They were one of my first 'additions' and the rest of the site has taken on a personality that they haven't kept up with.

Thanks for the feedback and your timing was just fine... Kind of nice that you answered at all, as certainly not every post on every forum gets a reply I've noticed!!! *gives bird to some other best left unnamed forums*

Fire up photoshop huh?

I'm about to set fire to photoshop. been working with it *counts* 15 hours straight to get this pain in the a** clients portfolio completed in two days (rather than the normall week timespan) get's me a week off work and time to relax. Anyway enough about me and my problems, you fire up photoshop and I'll burn mine down and then we can both live happily ever after.

Anyway, best of luck with the changes and give us a shout when you want another review.

hehehe... Occupational hazard I suppose.

No need to go back and look, but ditched the blinking subforum thing. Will have to search/think about the other Status Icons, but I agree - could be better.

That is because it ain't about anything, so I don't know what to put!!! Kind of explained its origin in the first post... Maybe I could add something that indicates it is a general chat forum interesting only in passing time and some basic self improvement...

Disadvantage = people don't join, unless invited for the most part.

Advantage = I could give rat's arse about traffic and so I get to sit back at laugh at people arguing about vbseo and stuff like that!!!
