Have any ideas?

Looks like activity is starting to pick up at vBulletin Modder. That's nice to see. If you think we need any topical forums feel free to let us know. Member input is always welcome and encouraged. There are no bad ideas. Well, maybe a few of mine are bad but that's another story. So give us your suggestions.

I think the regularity with which I come back will be based purely on the usefulness of the information I find here. The more you can provide unique modifications that I can implement (and perhaps even improve upon), the more I'll be back.

I would encourage, even reward somehow, people for posting their mods, or their favorite mods from Vbulletin.

The only way this site will have useful information is if all members contribute. Not just coders, designers and such. Every webmaster has information to contribute to this community.

I have come to the conclusion that incentives such as titles and badges are a bad thing. I know for myself, they apeal to a part of me that I find despicable. And I am sure it does the same for others. They only apeal to ego and when ego gets involved it just ruins everything. I feel this is the mistake other established forums have made and new ones continue to make. Sure they have lot's of members and posts. But do they have useful content and a content community.

I am going to be having a contest soon with some useful prizes. I have arrainged a few things to give away but need to find more. Plus I need to come up with some rules. But that's as far as I will go with the insentives. Incentives are useful if they are available to anyone in a community not just a specific group.

Custom titles are not good, I used them in the past, still use them, but in the next mayor upgrade I am going to deleted them, or made them visible for themselves only. So you don't know what X user has as Usertitle(staff would be able tho).

What I don't understand, is why do I need to have 5 posts to download/pay for hacks. Maybe I miss understood the text and its only to download free modifications posted here at vbmodder. Anyway, I got more than 5, and bought a subscription

A cool thing for "donors" would be removing all ads from the site for X weeks/months depending on the donation amount.
mmmm this is a coding forum, not a multi-subject forum, so its harder to create incentives and such. Most people here will only talk about code problems, or creating new code/mods. They wont talk about cars or life, so my imagination is a little reduced for creating incentives

My 2 cents

The five post rule is merely a speed bump to spammers. As a discussion forum where people discuss stuff, it's not too much to ask that they do so. IMO

I agree. I think it's funny when people complain about having to make a minimal # of posts

Re-reading it I think he is referring to my subscription mods. It's because I have gotten a lot of chargebacks to paypal after losers have grabed my stuff. So I figured it's easier to know who is who if they can't just sneak in and sneak out. Blame the dishonest asshats in the world for all the inconveniences in life.

I think that some people are under the wrong impression about CM and vBModder. I was. I was one of the first people to complain about having to post. I wanted the vbweather mod and knew CM's rep from .org and elsewhere, so was willing to pay to get it.

So, keep in mind my train of thought here: Why on earth should I need to post, so CM can get his money and me my Mod!?!?

As it has become clear that the Mods are the sidebar and the forum is the main page, well, it all makes sense.

And low and behold, I'll have my 5 posts very soon!!

I think that CM may want to take a boring moment and replace the Welcome Phrases, explaining how this is a vbulletin community support forum that also offers some great mods. Or just leave the Mods part out the original message altogether. Not like people won't find them!

So, do I have 5 posts yet?

I was mainly referring to a general mindset. We have a 10 post minimum at Talk vBulletin before you can download skins or mod zip files. People either complain, or spam. complainers I can deal with. Spammers I ban

Same here. I've actually been busted for breaking my own forum rules before. How embarrasing

Luckily mine was minor.

I had a no affiliate links in your sig rule I had forgotten about.

I even did it recently as a mod on a webmaster forum I frequent.

I think he meant on his own forum.
