Because of a need on one of my other sites I am working on a new mod. For the moment it's called Easy Contest for want of a better name. I needed to count posts in certain ways in specific forums. I couldn't find anything to do what I needed so I must code it. When I am done I will share it with our subscribers.

Basically, you will be able to set start and end date to the minute, you will be able to select minimum posted characters for posts to be counted and you will also be able to select which forums you want to count in. This will enable me to have my posting contest and hopefully be of use to some of you.

I added an optional referral checker so you can count referrals for entrants.

It's coming along nicely. Here are some more screen shots. It will allow you to count referrals and even limit that count to referrals that have posted a specified number of posts themselves. I'm also adding a point assignment for each category so you could have an overall winner and not just post count winner.

I'm testing this out on one of my sites right now. I can see different way that this app could go. Should I have a save feature to save the contest settings? This adds complexity but could be usefull.

Here is the latest on my test. It's working pretty well. It even gives you all the text and bbcode to post in your contest announcement thread including the complete list of forums the contest is for if you limit them.

I do need to add an ability to save contests though. I didn't want to add a lot of complexity but it was a pain to go in a pick all the forums again to see how it was going.

One of the sites I have now could actually use this for referrals. I want to make sure the referrals are legit somehow, is it possible to see if the referrals make any posts or only count them if they do?

Either way I could still see a lot of use of this.

Yes you set the post count required for referrals to have to be counted. And that would be counted posts. So if you set the post size to be 50 characters then that's what would be counted for the referred.

Nope. I haven't even looked at the thing in a few months. I took so much heat over a contest on one of my sites (the every post is spam crowd) that I just stopped working on it. I haven't had a posting contest since. I am a "have need" coder.
