What did you use to check it?

I have that thing on FireFox and it shows that After Seppuku is still a 1, but shows Foto Fanatix as a... 2 ?!?!?

As stated on matt cutts blog. This is not a page rank update. It's a page rank export of 3 month old data into the toolbar page rank system. At the same time a back link export is going on as well.

Google exports page rank and back links for public viewing every few months. This means that right now is when you want to get back links. Because they will take the snapshot for the next export in a couple weeks. They do this to slow down those that try to manipulate the page rank system. Doesn't work but that is why they do it.

The actual Page Rank is updated by them internally on a daily basis.

You know, the more I learn about this stuff, I seem to think that the best bet is just to keep creating new and up to date content.

My pagerank is predicted at 6 on the next update but I'm not expecting such a jump from a pagerank of zero. Incidently, when is the next pagerank update expected to be I heard mid-end january?

Interesting topic. New area (never seen this section before). I'm new to this whole Search Engine Optimization pagerank thing so I've learned 1 thing from this conversation. I'm guessing I'm dreaming or my eye's are playing tricks so when I wake up in the morning and realized this post never existed I'll be pming you stating I learned something but you won't know this untill tomorrow when you recieve that pm qnd baffled by a strange pm saying I've learned something.

This is a page rank export not an update. Pagerank is an internal measure of google that allows them to decide how important your pages are to the web at large. And how deep to search your sites pages. Every few months they take a snapshot of this data. Then a few months later they export it to the public servers which is wear your little tool bar get's its data. This is not your pagerank. This is what your pagerank was a few months ago.

For instance. Let's take Mr. Google himself, Matt Cutts. On Oct. 15th he posted this blog page. Matt Cutts: Gadgets, Google, and Search Engine Optimization » Email is the bane of my existence

Notice how it has a pagerank of 5. Now, on Oct. 17th he posted this blog page. Matt Cutts: Gadgets, Google, and Search Engine Optimization » Other Googlers you should read

You can see that it has no page rank. A big fat zero. So we can safely ascertain that a pagerank snapshot was taken somewhere in between the time these to pages were created. That's how you can find out how old the toolbar pagerank reading is.

So don't get all gaga over it. Look in your sitemaps page and google will give you much better hints on what they see in you NOW. You do have a sitemaps page don't you?

It appears that Google is having very serious issues and stoped the process, or they have forgotten their policy that says "don't be evil".

This current Page Ranking export looks like it ended without completing. Lets take vBulletin Modder for example.

Our front page went to Page Ranking 4. It's predicted at 6 which is meaningless, but with a three month old snapshot PR 4 would probably right for the toolbar. However, our forums are still PR 2. And the google webmaster site keeps switching between the two as the top PR page and has been since before the alleged snapshot date.

On top of that, we have newer forums that are now Page Ranking 4 and contain posts that are PR 4. Which would indicate the result of a front page at 6 and a forum home at 5 or 6. Then , we have older forums from when I started this site that still have 0 PR. What the heck is that. And to add insult to injury, (but I will take the PR) we have an archive page for a forum that has two threads that is a PR 5. This is bleepin nuts if you ask me.

There are authority sites out there right not that have 10's of thousands of backlinks that were Page Ranking 7 before this export that now have 0. Something is seriously wrong and the bad part is it's costing people money. Especially with pages disapearing from SERPs for sights that make a living on the net. Google has become a very irresponsible company. They are hurting legitimate people to stop a few bad eggs. But that's just my opionion that counts for nothing in the scheme of things.

Google apears to have started the pagerank export process again this evening. Sites are again changing. Hopefully they fixed the problems.

Holy Moly...

Both my forums seem to have risen... Varied results though, so kind of confusing to me.

After Seppuku now has a frontpage Rank of 3 and forum index Rank of 2.
Foto Fanatix now has respective Ranks of 2 and 3.

Backwards, eh?
